青金石（英文：lazurite [1] 或Lapis lazuli，來源於拉丁語）在中國古代稱為璆琳、金精、瑾瑜，青黛等。佛教稱為吠努離或璧琉璃，是古代東西方文化交流的見證之一。資料顯示，青金石是通過「絲綢之路」從阿富汗傳入中國 [2] 。其通常為集合體產出，呈緻密塊狀、粒狀結構。顏色為深藍色、紫藍色、天藍色、綠藍色等。青金石還是天然藍色顏料的主要原料。
青金石在選擇上以色澤均勻無裂紋，質地細膩無金星為佳，無白灑金次之，灑金指金星均勻分布如果黃鐵礦含量較低，在表面不出現金星也不影響質量。但是如果金星色澤發黑、發暗，或者方解石含量過多在表面形成大面積的白斑，則價值大大降低。
